(POMP) Out of School Childcare in Cumbernauld  / Lenzie / Denny / Croy / Chryston / Colquhoun.

As a voluntary association established to meet the needs of families and young people, we have from our inception been involved in childcare and youth provision. This has included Nursery provision, Playgroups and Toddler groups, Junior Clubs, Youth Clubs, Play Schemes and Summer Holiday Camps.

In terms of childcare, a review of local needs in 1998 highlighted a need for a structured out of school care service (OSC). Unable to secure direct funding support the association Board of Management committed itself to raising £2000 to start up a local service. The Kildrum 'Out of School Care' project (P.O.M.P) began in January 1989 "to create a safe place for children” so that with 'Peace Of Mind Parents' could go to work knowing their children were in safe hands. As the first out of school care project to be established without direct funding, Head Teachers and Parents from non urban aid areas soon approached us to establish new services.

This service provides quality childcare care to 350 children a day from over 50 schools in North Lanarkshire, Denny and East Dunbartonshire and is making a substantial contribution to the local economy.

We believe that an effectively managed and knowledgeable staff team who feel valued and empowered is essential in delivering quality services and our management structures and staff training records are testament to this. All of our childcare staff receive training to SVQ Level II as a minimum with Team Leaders receiving essential training in Staff Supervision, Appraisals etc. In addition all staff are offered regular training opportunities in Equal Opportunities, Promoting Positive Behaviour, First Aid, Child Protection, Elementary Food Hygiene, Additional Support Needs, Arts and Crafts, New Games etc.
